and on another note...

I got my official internship offer letter today with two bullet points under the description. The first was not all that ominous and was relatively straightforward, the second was "this is an educational, unpaid internship." Part-time job as I'm sure a barista/bartender/waitress (as people tend not to offer paying jobs for professional blog stalker, tofu-eater, library inhabitant or any other of my various skills) and part-time intern. What's up, real world? You came out of nowhere!

college

Why are so many extracurriculars required when they have zip to do with my major and will never help me on my career path? College, you kinda suck sometimes. In other news, shout out to grace for creating (against my will) a twitter page for me (complete with self-indulgent password) that I shall never use.

i want to read this

French Milk by Lucy Knisley.

Simon&Schuster praise:

Through delightful drawings, photographs, and musings, twenty-three-year-old Lucy Knisley documents a six-week trip she and her mother took to Paris when each was facing a milestone birthday. With a quirky flat in the fifth arrondissement as their home base, they set out to explore all the city has to offer, watching fireworks over the Eiffel Tower on New Year's Eve, visiting Oscar Wilde's grave, loafing at cafés, and, of course, drinking delicious French milk. What results is not only a sweet and savory journey through the City of Light but a moving, personal look at a mother-daughter relationship.

... living in Paris is rare, decadent and one of life's sweetest treats. I lived in the sixth, right next to where this mother daughter duo call home!

my girls

In Ann Arbor with Lizzy, Julie and Randell. The four of us reunited in Michigan for Theta's formal. Three girls that I've missed more than any other high school friend or acquaintance. T-pain rocks in the background while vodka is consumed in water bottles on the bus ride to Detroit. To old friends that will forever outrun the new ones, I love you girls. Here's to a fantastic night to fit the memory books.

home.sweet.home.

Currently: sitting on the pink couch (I love my parent's design skills) watching Twilight (compliments of my father who rented it for me) watching my pink-for-spring toenail polish dry (thank you mom for scheduling me a pedi without me even asking for it) thinking about how I skipped my daily workout for a bag of peanut/carob chip (vegans fake chocolate)/raisin trail mix and loving that this is my Spring Break.

obsession of the day: maybelline colossal mascara

a girl always needs mascara.

entirely random

Sometimes, graduating in this "depression #2?" makes me a bit nervous.

... this picture is encompassing of how I, and many others, see our economy right now. It always helps to put a lighter spin on rough times, and laugh about them.

This picture is hilarious.
Read the smaller font and see what I, fresh journalism grad, have to look forward to.

Word on the typeface street is that Microsoft didn't want to pay for Helvetica, so they formatted their own font, arial, that comes bundled on every Microsoft program. Readily available. As you can see, there is a difference of ... well, slim to none.
Helvetica, baby, you will always hold a place in my heart over that imposter.

le love

Waking up today, I knew it would be a good day. Finally being able to sleep with my window open allows for the natural alarm clock that follows the birds that have taken up residence in the forest preserve behind my apartment. Not that coffee doesn't play a huge role in my exit from sleep, it's just that the sun and warm breeze don't hurt.

So 7 a.m. started with the great feeling that comes with being up early and having one of the first days of spring ahead of you.

... then came le love.

One of the most beautiful blogs that I have found.

Simplistic.
Personal.
Voyeuristic.
Romantic.

Le love, a blog solely dedicated to all that is being lovesick.
I compiled what I considered the most heart-fluttering images and will post them after work.
If you want to stalk in the meantime, the blog can be found here.

spring has sprung

... well, not officially until March 20 (le vingt mars en francais) but today the weather forecast is for a beautiful sixty-eight degrees.

spring break

While everyone else is on the beach, on a boat (yeah, I referenced it) or somewhere under the sun where it is actually above 50 degrees, I will instead be using my week at home to learn how to use the camera my dad gave me over winter break. I want to learn how to be a photographer!!!!!

..... I mean, how hard can it be? .....

type things

Noun, located in Portland, Oregon, has some of the cutest treasures tucked onto their shelves and for those of us not in the drizzly town, showcased on their internet store.
What is most interesting about this neat venue is their uncanny choice in goods to sell - it's the most harmonious balance between vintage goods, modern sells and items that perfectly mesh the two and create novelties that are old school products with a beautifully modern twist.
The website can be found here!

Some of my favorites:

Wouldn't those make great book-ends?

My never ending quest for a vintage typewriter still rages on. However, Noun's selection is limited (solely the two above) and they are a bit on the pricey side. Alas, they are gorgeous anyway.

This vase would look perfect filled with a simple flower.
Nothing to detract from the awesome coral design.
Fruit is delicious in every way possible. Apparently, now that means in vase form.
See what I mean about the modern spin on timeless items? They have these hourglasses in different colors as well but I think the black is most visually popping.

Vintage anatomy plates! Oh, how the format of education has changed ...

parisian mornings

Whilst performing my morning ritual - including but not limited to: coffee, word of the day and blog stalking - I found Little Brown Pen; creative stylings of a woman currently living in Paris and logging her experiences, visually and through the written word.

It's time like this when I read about Paris and see it's smallest beauties captured through photos and storytelling that my heart melts for the city and I miss it with a tangible pain.

Now that I've found her blog I'll have to follow it closely and see if her experience living in the city of lights and loves mirrors mine in any way. Maybe I'll draft her an email and tell her that she simply cannot logically live without L'as du Falafel, or the little street full of restaurants and lights off of Rue des beaux-arts. Possibly tune her in to the matchbox-sized, hole in the wall bar that is Bob Cool. My Paris, hopefully different than the way other people experienced the city, is full of the windy streets that spill out many secrets unseen on le grand boulevards; so many places in that city that have possibly been seen by me and me alone - or if you're lucky, with an equally as vivacious companion.
